Dr. Angel Iscovich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to survivors from World War II. Growing up in the shadow of this devastating conflict, he and his family struggled financially with little to call their own. As a young immigrant to the United States, a world of opportunity led him to explore Philosophy and Medicine. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Puget Sound brought him to the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, and post graduate training in Psychiatry, and his interest in Human Behavior; most notably the focus Emergency Medicine. He served as a part-time teacher and mentor as Associate Clinical Professor at USC Keck School of Medicine over a period of ten years at Los Angeles County Medical Center. Interest in leadership, organizational development, and strategy was exercised in the corporate health care sector over many years, as well as in philanthropy, serving most recently as the Chair of Direct Relief, the top-rated charity in the United States. This broad experience affords Dr. Iscovich with a unique view into human behavior, aiding in his continual search for meaning and purpose in our lives.
THE ART OF ROUTINE
Conventional wisdom suggests the best way to navigate our noisy new world is to accept change and open up to novelty. Go with the flow. Embrace the relentless pelting of content minute by minute. Dr. Iscovich is here to say this is not the best way to journey through our lives — and in fact may go against our very nature.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to survivors from World War II, Dr. Iscovich grew up in the shadow of this devastating conflict. Though he and family struggled with little to call their own, he immigrated to the US where he graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Puget Sound before matriculating to the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and obtaining his post-graduate training in Psychiatry and practicing as an Emergency Physician. His interest in leadership, organizational development, and strategy have led him to C- suite positions in the corporate health care sector, as well the non-profit sector. He has chaired Direct Relief, the top-rated charity in the US. Such broad experience affords Dr. Iscovich with a unique view into human behavior, aiding in his continual search for meaning and purpose in our lives, the subject of his book the “Art of Routine”.
The crux of the book is that humans not only require structure, but we thrive in it. From the womb to the tomb, we create and recreate numerous dynamics offering us meaning, fulfillment, and purpose. He shows how implementing routine in one’s life can lead to better, health, joy, and fulfillment.
